
Dr. Adeyemi Johnson MD, FACC
The Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Adeyemi Sanyade Johnson is a seasoned interventional cardiologist. He graduated from the College of Medicine University of Lagos in 1980. He began his postgraduate training at Yale University New Haven Connecticut USA where he was enrolled in the Masters in Public health and Preventive Medicine program. He then underwent his Internal Medicine Residency training program as well as his Cardiovascular Disease fellowship training program at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University New York. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1987 and Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine- Cardiovascular disease Subspecialty in 1989. He subsequently underwent Interventional Cardiology Fellowship training at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda California. He became Director of Vascular Cardiology at Mid Carolina Cardiology, Charlotte-North Carolina and is credited with the initiation of the peripheral vascular intervention program at the institution. He was appointed Associate Clinical Professor Wake Forest University Medical Center Winston North Carolina in 2006. He relocated to Nigeria in 2008 and founded First Cardiology Consultants Ltd. He has pioneered contemporary invasive cardiology in Nigeria. He has performed several procedures including the first coronary angioplasty with stent implantation in Nigeria, first non-surgical (percutaneous) closure of holes in the heart for children (patent ductus arteriosus) and adults (atrial septal defect). He now performs these procedures routinely. Dr Johnson has also established a non-surgical peripheral vascular disease program to restore blood flow to blocked arteries of the arms and legs. This program has helped salvage several limbs which hitherto would have been amputated due to poor circulation.

He was a Resident in Internal medicine (Accelerated pathway) at the State University of New York (SUNY) Stony Brook Long Island. He obtained Cardiovascular disease Fellowship training at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He is Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular diseases.
He was an Advanced Cardiac Imaging fellow at Tuft’s University New England Medical Center Boston MA, and became a Diplomate of the National Board of Echocardiography in 1999. His University Faculty career began as Assistant Professor Columbia University New York between 1998 and 2002, where he was the Director of Echocardiography at Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown New York. He joined the Queen’s University, Kingston Ontario Canada Faculty, as Clinician Scholar in 2002.
He initiated major research programs in Hypertension and Diastology, and led the imaging component of the Queen’s University Molecular Cardiology program. He relocated to Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute Chicago, IL, as a Clinician Scientist where he was until 2010 when he relocated to Nigeria. Apart from major responsibilities in Echocardiography training and clinical practice, he initiated several research programs among which were, morbidity associated with diastolic dysfunction in young adults, and quantification of gender and ethnicity-related variations in right ventricular size.
He held numerous leadership positions, such as Member of the Guidelines and Standards Committee of the American Society of Echocardiography. He has authored many original peer-reviewed publications including Guidelines and Standards manuscripts on “How to perform and utility of echocardiography”, and “Recommendations on the Use of Echocardiography in Rheumatic Heart disease”.
He is a reviewer for several cardiovascular disease journals as well as Abstract Grader for many cardiovascular disease organizations scientific sessions. He established the Echocardiography Laboratory of First Cardiology Consultants Ikoyi as the premier imaging center representing the whole of Africa from where the landmark WASE (World Alliance of Societies of Echocardiography) studies were performed, thereby providing for the FIRST time, standardized echocardiographic parameters for Black people worldwide. To date 20 major manuscripts related to this project has been published in high impact journals. He also established a sleep medicine program at FCC healthcare and is currently the contact resource specialist for RESMED (the leading provider for Sleep Medicine products worldwide) for West Africa region. He is also one of the international experts that produced the recently published manuscript on Echocardiography in Rheumatic Heart disease.
He is a co-founder and director of the Healthy Heart Foundation established to provide sponsorship for the medical and surgical therapies for less privileged Nigerians, create educational tools and services for the Nigeria’s healthcare workforce, and conduct original research relevant to the needs of the Nigerian community.

Dr Hammed Ninalowo is a US-trained Vascula and Interventional Radiologist with subspecialty training in Interventional Oncology, who completed training at the prestigious hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr ‘Jimi Coker qualified from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He had his specialist surgical training in the United Kingdom with basic surgical training in Greater Manchester and higher surgical training in South Yorkshire based around the Sheffield University Teaching Hospitals. He was appointed Lecturer in Surgery at University of Sheffield and Consultant General Surgeon with specialist interest in laparoscopic surgery and coloproctology at Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust in January 1999.
In January 2011, Dr Coker left the UK after twenty-five years, for sabbatical in Lagos, Nigeria to introduce minimal access surgery at Hygeia Nigeria Limited, as Chief of Surgery. In 2015 he was appointed Chief Medical Director, and Chief Executive Officer in October 2019. A post he held till June 2022.
Dr Coker is the President, Laparoscopic Surgery Society of Nigeria, and on the advisory board, Research Institute against digestive cancers (IRCAD Africa), Kigali, Rwanda. He is the CEO of Habevit Healthcare Consulting.
An experienced Consultant Surgeon of international repute, his specialist interests include advanced laparoscopic surgery for gallstones, hernias, benign and malignant colorectal diseases.
