The World Kidney Day Joint Steering Committee declared 2023 to be the year of “Kidney Health for All – Preparing for the unexpected, supporting the vulnerable!”.
The 2023 campaign focused on raising awareness about disastrous events, natural or man-made, international or local, and their impact on people living with kidney disease whose access to appropriate diagnostic services, treatment, and care is hindered.

World Kidney Day (WKD) is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of March. It is the global awareness campaign to raise awareness of the importance of kidneys to our health and to reduce the impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.

  • On this occasion of World Kidney Day take an oath to abstain from smoking since it moderates the progression of blood to kidneys which in turn weakens the working of kidneys
  • Make sure that your blood pressure is neither too high nor too low.
  • Get rid of all the waste in your systems such as urea, uric acid, toxins, and other wastes via urine.
  • Help others who are in need. Donate a kidney and give someone a happy and healthy life.
  • Make a habit of drinking more water and less aerated drinks to prevent your kidneys from spoiling.
  • On this occasion of World Kidney day take a pledge to exercise regularly and sweat more to keep your kidneys safe. Take proper care and ensure a healthy lifestyle on this day.

To raise awareness about the impact of disastrous events on people living with kidney disease, WKD encourages people across the globe to conduct their own awareness raising activities either online or in-person. WKD recommends people to use social media to spread the word and mention #WorldKidneyDay or tag @worldkidneyday in their posts to follow the progress of the campaign and for us, to share their WKD content with a wider audience.

Reminding the world of the importance of our kidneys is the main objective of the campaign, WKD invites everyone to take part in the #ShowYourKidneys challenge and use our resources and materials, such as the social media toolkit, the activities guide and WKD 2023 visuals to help WKD advocates find inspiration for their awareness raising social media campaign or activity.

On 9 March, let’s celebrate together the importance of our kidneys and raise awareness about the impact of disastrous events on people living with kidney disease.

Happy World Kidney Day
